Hey folks, I hope you’re all doing well! It’s been a little while so I wanted to reintroduce myself to past clients, future couples, and my fellow industry professionals.
I’m Grae, (they/them) the photographer and owner here at Eyes Closed Head First wedding photography.
I’ll confess this introduction has two purposes, as this is something of a coming out for me as well. Having been an openly queer person for many years, and actively speaking up for equality in conversations with many of the people I interact with, I found myself struggling with the very basics of my own identity.
In the last couple of years however I have had the good fortune to discuss this at length with a number of wonderful people, professionals, and truly glorious folks who have helped me understand this incongruity I’ve been battling with for decades.
It has been inspiring throughout my career as a wedding photographer to have seen all forms of love and identity celebrated, and it’s something I can no longer be on the sidelines of.
My company is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and being open and honest about myself is a key step to making sure I can serve everybody to the best of my ability.
I appreciate this may come as a surprise to some of the folks I know well in this circle, but trust me this has been coming for a long time now. I feel freer, happier, and lighter as a person now.
Thanks for reading the essay, and I look forward to working with you all in the future!
